Choosing Wisely Nova Scotia Launch
A public panel discussion event - Reducing Unnecessary Medical Tests, Treatments and Procedures

Choosing Wisely Nova Scotia: Every year in Canada, patients undergo over a million unnecessary medical tests and treatments – which can cause harm. Unnecessary tests and treatments also can increase wait times for patients who really need care.
Choosing Wisely Canada is a national campaign to reduce unnecessary medical tests and treatments by encouraging health care providers and patients to talk openly about effective choices. The focus is on enhancing patient outcomes through the use of evidence-based recommendations developed by national clinician specialty societies. Implementation of the recommendations is led by doctors, with priorities set in each province or region. In Nova Scotia, Doctors Nova Scotia and Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Medicine will lead and jointly launch Choosing Wisely Nova Scotia.
Event Format: Panel discussion open to the public, health-care providers and media. The event includes:
- Welcome and Introduction (< 5 min)
- Panel discussion (~20 min)
- Question and answer session (30 min)
Mary Jane Hampton, health-care consultant and commentator, will moderate the discussion. The panelists are:

Visual & Audio Set-up:
The panel will be set up on risers at the front of the room. A media feed box will be available, as well as a riser for cameras.
